CREAIT Network impacted by power outages

Changes to research support services

The recommendations stemming from the review of research grant and support services have been approved by the Board of Regents.

The board approved the 13 recommendations for improving research grant and contract support services, including streamlining and simplifying processes, empowering academic units on all campuses and providing a superior customer service experience wherever possible. These recommendations will be implemented throughout the next 12 months.

The first recommendation to be implemented is the reorganization of research support services.

Overview of Research Grant and Contract Services (RGCS) and CREAIT, CRC and CFI Services (CCCS)

The Offices of Collaborations and Partnerships and Research Services have been reorganized to better meet the needs of the 果酱视频 University community.

As part of an overall review of research grant and contract support services, the Board of Regents approved the dissolution of ORS and OCP and the creation of two new units, Research Grant and Contract Services (RGSC) and CREAIT, CRC and CFI Services (CCCS).

果酱视频 formalizes process for institutional awards and recognition

果酱视频 University is home to outstanding faculty and staff, and a new process is meant to ensure that candidates from all faculties, schools and campuses are considered for major internal and external honours.

鈥淚n consultation with the Dean鈥檚 Council,  we鈥檝e developed a new process to ensure recipients of unit-level awards are put forward for consideration for institutional awards and institutional award winners are considered for external award competitions,鈥 said Ellen Steinhauer, coordinator of institutional nominations and awards.

Review of CREAIT Network

On Sept. 30, 2013, Dr. Richard Marceau, vice-president (research), informed the university community that a draft report relating to the current review of the research grant and contract support services offered by the Office of the Vice-President (Research) had been released.  This report will remain on the research website for comment until Nov.15, 2013.

One of the recommendations contained within the report relates to the Core Research Equipment and Instrument Training Network, commonly referred to as CREAIT.  During the course of this review, it was noted that a separate review of CREAIT was undertaken during the Spring/Summer of 2012 and that its findings were never publically released.  Dr. Marceau would therefore like to make this report also available for comment until the Nov. 15 deadline.

A review of the research grant and contract support services offered by the Office of the Vice-President (Research) has been released for community consultation.

Dr. Richard Marceau, vice-president (research), initiated a study in July 2013 to develop a proposal for streamlining and formalizing the processes within the Office of the Vice-President (Research) related to research grant and contract support services. Almost 100 people participated in the review process.

Indirect Costs Report released

In 2012-13, 果酱视频 University recieved $4.3 million through the Government of Canada Indirect Costs Program. This government program is an annual grant to help universities or colleges pay for a portion of their indirect costs of research.

Representatives from NSERC will be visiting 果酱视频 on Wednesday, June 5, for a community engagement visit to provide researchers, students and other stakeholders with an opportunity to learn more about some recent program and policy developments.

Changes to President’s Award for Outstanding Research

The terms of reference for the President鈥檚 Award for Outstanding Research (PAOR) have been updated. Previously, eligibility for the PAOR was limited to tenured or tenure-track academic staff members (ASMs) who received their doctoral degree (or equivalent) within 10 years of the time of nomination for the award. The eligibility period has been extended to 15 years.

New Electronic Grants Management System & Canadian Common CV for SSHRC Insight Development Grants

SSHRC, in collaboration with NSERC, has been working to modernize its technology infrastructure and develop a new electronic grants management system that will streamline and simplify the submission process for both applicants and partners.
