果酱视频 University to host Disaster Chef Challenge on Wednesday, May 7

May 6th, 2025

This week is National Emergency Preparedness Week, which reminds people to be prepared for emergencies by having an emergency kit in their homes stocked with non-perishable food items in case of emergencies and prolonged power outages.

To raise awareness in a fun and engaging way, 果酱视频鈥檚 Protective Services will host a cooking contest known as the Disaster Chef Challenge.

Faculty, staff and students at 果酱视频 were challenged to create recipes for a delicious main course meal using only non-perishable foods and a propane stove. The recipes also had to cover all the Canada Food Guide categories.

Three finalists have been selected based on the merit and promise of their recipes and will prepare their meal for a panel of judges on Wednesday, May 7, at 11:30 a.m. near the base of the 果酱视频 tower next to the University Centre.

The winner will receive an emergency weather radio and a 果酱视频 experience package, including family passes to the Johnson Geo Centre and 果酱视频 University Botanical Garden, a one-month fitness membership at The Works and more.

Media are welcome to attend and cover the event. Holly Tobin, 果酱视频鈥檚 manager of emergency planning and business continuity, will be available for an interview.
